We’re delighted to announce that Cubanas: Mujeres en Revolución (Cuban Women in the Revolution) will be returning to Wales this autumn for a special screening at Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan on Friday 5 September 2025 at 7.00pm.
This inspiring documentary by Argentine director María Torrellas shines a light on the central role women played in Cuba’s revolutionary struggle — and the ways their legacy continues to shape Cuban society today. From guerrilla leaders such as Vilma Espín and Celia Sánchez to the voices of contemporary artists, doctors, and educators, Cubanas is both a moving tribute to women’s courage and a celebration of their ongoing impact.

A warm return after Aberystwyth
This isn’t the first time we’ve had the privilege of sharing Cubanas. Back in 2024, we worked with Cymru Cuba, UNITE Community Wales, and others to bring the film to Aberystwyth.
The screening was a tremendous success, with many people telling us how inspiring it was to see Cuban women’s voices at the forefront of history and culture, and that sense of solidarity has stayed with us ever since, so we’re really pleased to continue that journey in 2025, once again in collaboration with Cymru Cuba and UNITE Community Wales.
A special evening in Cardigan
This year’s screening comes with some truly exciting additions as we’ll be joined by Cuban Ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter, Elin Jones AS, and we will also host a post-screening Q&A with director María Torrellas.
If you missed Cubanas in Aberystwyth last year, this is your chance to experience it. And if you were with us for that unforgettable evening, we’d love to welcome you back to keep the conversation alive.
