THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC + Shorts with a Live Score at the Llanwarne Village Hall

We’re delighted to be returning to Llanwarne Village Hall on Saturday, October 11, at 7.30pm, for another of our live score screenings... something of a tradition now!

Over the years, we’ve shared some magical evenings here, and our last event with the Radical Film Network (RFN) was a real highlight. These screenings bring together friends, neighbours, and film lovers in a way that feels both intimate and celebratory, and this autumn we have something truly special lined up.

On this occasion, we’ll be presenting Carl Theodor Dreyer’s masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) with live improvised music by two brilliant Wales-based musicians, Lyndon Owen and Ashley John Long. To accompany Dreyer’s silent classic, we’re also showing two short films from RFN filmmakers in Berlin/Mexico City and Portugal/New York, both of which respond to Dreyer’s legacy in fascinating, contemporary ways.

About the films:

  • The Passion of Joan of Arc (Carl Theodor Dreyer, Denmark 1928. 1hr 20mins)

Dreyer’s iconic portrayal of Joan’s trial and final hours is widely regarded as one of cinema’s greatest achievements. Its stark beauty and emotional intensity continue to inspire filmmakers and audiences nearly a century on.

  • Conditio Humana – The Passion of the Unseen and the Ordinary (Manuela Johanna Covini, Germany/Mexico 2025, 9mins 48secs)

A silent experimental meditation on quiet suffering, human fragility, and the burdens we pass on to future generations.

  • Self and Others (Patricia Silva, USA/Portugal 2015, 5mins 55secs)

A playful and radical reworking of Hollywood’s visual language, queering its gestures and rhythms to open up new ways of seeing.

As for the music, that will be improvised live by our beloved duo, bringing a fresh and contemporary voice to Dreyer’s extraordinary images. Those who’ve joined us before will know just how transformative these performances can be.

Entrance is free but booking is recommended as the seats are limited - please reserve yours by clicking clicking the button below. See you there!
