We're Taking Wales × South Africa Shorts Online
We're excited to bring our Wales × South Africa Shorts programme online, giving audiences across Europe the chance to watch this special collection of films free of charge from 25 June to 5 July 2026.
Created through a collaboration between WOW (Wales One World Film Festival) and Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), the programme celebrates emerging filmmaking talent from Wales and South Africa. Co-curated by both festivals, it brings together a diverse range of stories, styles and perspectives, showcasing the creativity, originality and ambition of filmmakers working in both countries today.
Originally presented as a live event at WOW, this online screening offers a new opportunity to discover bold voices and distinctive storytelling from two vibrant film cultures. From powerful documentaries to imaginative fiction and experimental work, the collection highlights the richness of contemporary short filmmaking while creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences across continents.
At WOW, we are proud to champion Welsh filmmakers alongside underrepresented voices from around the world, and this partnership with DIFF reflects our shared commitment to cultural exchange through cinema. By presenting films from Wales and South Africa together, the programme opens up new conversations and celebrates the stories that connect us across borders.
The collaboration doesn't end with this online screening. As part of the exchange, the Welsh short films featured in the programme will travel to South Africa to screen In Competition at Durban International Film Festival (23 July- 2 August 2026) bringing Welsh filmmaking to one of Africa's leading film festivals and introducing these films to new international audiences.
