PREMIERE OF THE BRONZE MEN OF CAMEROON + Q&A WITH DIR. FLORENCE AYISI

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

WOW will be screening The Bronze Men Of Cameroon in cinemas across Wales, followed by a Q&A with Director Florence Ayisi in Kinokulture, Taliesin Arts Centre, and Theatr Gwaun.

WOW is returning to the cinema in March 2023, with this year's particular focus being on Indigenous languages and cultures.

As part of this strand we are happy to announce that we will be screeningThe Bronze Men Of Cameroon.

The screenings of the film in Kinokulture (Oswestry), Taliesin Arts Centre (Swansea), and Theatr Gwaun (Fishguard), will be followed by Q&As with the film's director, Florence Ayisi.

The film presents an intimate portrait of bronze casting as a valued traditional practice that has defined the identity of the Bamum People in the Western Region of Cameroon.

It explores cultural heritage, continuity and changing status of a once flourishing tradition that is now endangered as global trends impact on the treasured way of life that has sustained livelihoods over several generations.

Are these the last generation of bronze artists in the Bamum Kingdom? And are the processes of globalisation incompatible with the preservation of Indigenous cultures?
