After its first outing as a mini-festival in 2021, and growing into a much-loved strand within our main festival's March programme, we are thrilled to announce the return of Ecosinema as a dedicated two-day event this autumn in Aberystwyth,
on the 9th and 10th of October.
Teaser:
Happening across Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Arad Goch, Ecosinema 2025 will once again bring together cinema, climate justice, and community, blending international storytelling with local voices. Over two days, audiences will encounter thought-provoking films, discussions, and collaborations with grassroots organisations, highlighting the urgent intersections of ecology, peace, food, and sustainability.
This year’s edition celebrates both the global and the local, reminding us of the power of film to spark dialogue, inspire collective action, and imagine more sustainable and peaceful futures.
Day One — Thursday 9 October | Aberystwyth Arts Centre
We open the day with a special 10th anniversary screening of the Embrace of the Serpent, Ciro Guerra’s visionary and Oscar-nominated (and Cannes winner) Amazonian epic.
The evening continues with the Welsh Premiere of Lost for Words, a lyrical documentary inspired by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris’ The Lost Words. We’re delighted that director Hannah Papacek Harper will join us in person for a post-screening Q&A.
Day Two — Friday 10 October | Arad Goch
Day two focuses on community, dialogue, and exchange. We’ll begin with a feature screening (title to be announced soon), followed by a panel discussion bringing together local voices, including representatives from Dyfi Biosphere, the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University, and more.
The day will close with a shared community meal, created in collaboration with Aber Food Surplus, offering a chance for audiences and participants to continue the conversation in a warm, communal setting.
Tickets will be on sale soon - in the meantime, you can take a first look at the programme here.
