As their epic journey progresses the uncomfortable pair are pulled apart, forced together and slowly move towards some kind of mutual understanding. Their trip culminates in astounding scenes of Mecca that give a rare insight into the spiritual power of Islam, while Ferroukhi’s subtle characterisation and faith in small gestures makes for a touching look at the relationship between father and son.
“pleasingly understated road movie . . . an engaging, compassionate film.”
