With a total of around 4,000 attendances, WOW’s average attendances across all screenings and events was up 46% in 2013 to 74 people per show.

Highlights included Ken Loach attending the Welsh premiere of The Spirit of 45 in Chapter, Cuban director Gerardo Chijona introducing the UK premiere of Ticket to Paradise, and Juan Carlos Cremata’s Q&A after Viva Cuba being ’skyped’ from Aberystwyth to two other cinemas in Wales.

On the menu there were Chilean Cazuelas , a vegetarian stew with peppers, potatoes and black eyed beans flavoured with paprika, chilli, ginger and coriander served with Chilean cornbread, and Chile’s national cocktail, the Pisco Sour, a blend of lime juice, South American liquor, syrup, ice and egg white!

Also Chilean folk music from El Sueno Existe.

Both sobering and inspiring, the film made the audience feel proud and tearful in equal measure.

WOW Film Festival audiences across Wales will have another chance to ask Ken Loach questions in a nationwide satellite screening of the film and Q&A on Sunday 17 March – showing at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Chapter Arts Centre.

WOW 2014 will start on Friday 21 March in Cardiff & Aberystwyth

During WOW Film Festival 2013, we held some special events to enhance the festival experience, including live music, panel discussions and Q&As and special menus during the festival to celebrate global cuisine.

We had a Chilean themed opening night event at Chapter, a few very special Ken Loach events and screenings and WOW was the only chance to see Oscar-nominated War Witch in Wales.

March 6 at 6pm – Screening of The Spirit of 45, with Q&A with Director Ken Loach, at Chapter.

March 15 – Chilean launch event in Chapter.

March 17 - Screening of The Spirit of 45 with live Q&A with Ken Loach beamed to Chapter, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and The Torch.

March 19 – Screening of Viva Cuba! Director Juan Carlos Cremata will be present for a Q&A after the screening in Aberystwyth that will be simultaneously skyped to Chapter and Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
