Based on real events this is a sensitive and unusual portrayal of Cuba during the ‘Special Period’, when the country suffered severe economic shortages due to the collapse of the USSR. Fleeing an abusive father and a troubled school life, Eunice makes friends with three other runaways whose hand to mouth existence of drugs and crime finally leads them to make the ultimate sacrifice to escape from their desperate situation. Critically acclaimed internationally, Ticket to Paradise depicts some of the harrowing struggles of neglected teenagers desperately trying to survive on the streets.
