Chile. 1973. Set against the collapse of Allende’s government, quick-witted, slum-kid Pedro and shy, rich-kid Gonzalo forge an unlikely friendship despite their different backgrounds, the animosity of their classmates, and their families’ widely divergent views on the escalating crisis. While Pedro’s family are taking to the streets in support of Allende, Gonzalo’s brother can’t wait to crack a few heads and for the government to fall. The boys witness the country’s slide into anarchy at first hand, and when the shadow of the military junta falls across their joyful childhood they taste the bitter disappointments of adult life. A delicate and accomplished coming-of-age tale, that is also an angry, idealistic farewell to an era brutally cut short before its time.
