I Wish (PG)

Director: Hirokazu Koreeda
Starring: Maeda, Ohshiro Maeda, Nene Ohtsuka
Japan, 2011, 2 hours 9 minutes, subtitles

The latest from Koreeda, (who directed Still Walking) is a delightful story of two brothers, separated when their parents split up, who are determined to bring the family back together again. All seven kids involved in the brothers’ adventure to see the two bullet trains pass each other (which will make their wish come true) are charming, while the brothers themselves are unaffectedly natural and note perfect. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face thanks to Koreeda’s skill in showing how kids make sense of the world, this effortlessly evokes a child-like state of mind.

Mae ffilm ddiweddaraf Koreeda, (a gyfarwyddodd Still Walking) yn stori hyfryd am ddau frawd, a gafodd eu gwahanu pan chwalwyd priodas eu rhieni, sy’n benderfynol o ddod â’r teulu yn ôl at ei gilydd. Mae’r saith plentyn sy’n cymryd rhan yn nyheuad y brodyr i weld y ddau drên bwled yn pasio ei gilydd (a fydd yn dod â’u dymuniad yn wir) yn gyfareddol, tra bod y brodyr eu hunain yn gwbl naturiol. Mae’r ffilm hon yn sicr o roi gwên ar eich wyneb yn sgil dawn hyfryd Koreeda i ddangos sut mae plant yn gwneud synnwyr o’r byd.

“I Wish’ is perhaps best summed up by its original Japanese title: miracle.” Time Out
