France, 2009, 1hr 53mins, subtitles
Screening for the first time in the UK, this radical, exhilarating documentary not only digs into the problems of industrialized agriculture, quizzing farmers and philosophers alike, but explores concrete local solutions to the global ecological mess. This takes us on a journey from French farmers co-ops, via landless Brazilian peasants and experimental farms in India, to the world’s biggest organic farm in Ukraine. What they have in common is the goal of agricultural self-sufficiency by making better use of limited resources. A wise, funny, optimistic film that concentrates on the people with positive solutions to the ecological, financial, and political crises that we all face.
