A wonderful surprise, this explores the relationship between East and West and our different attitudes to life, the traditional and the modern, country and city, as well as the mysterious links between dreams and reality. A western man in a Red Army cap comes to stay with a shepherd who lives in a small house on the edge of a lake deep in the grasslands of Inner Mongolia. They have no common language and each gives the other much cause for complaint. What follows is a surreally funny comedy of errors with a wry, understated wit that recalls Aki Kaurismäki at his least somber.
