Wales Premiere of The Spirit of 45 with Ken Loach

As a special preview and Welsh Premiere we are delighted that Ken Loach will be coming to Cardiff to introduce his latest film, The Spirit of 45 on Wednesday 6 March. The Spirit of 45 uses archive film of the period and contemporary interviews with those who remember the 30s & 40s to celebrate a period of unprecedented community spirit in the UK, the impact of which endured for many years.

On stage in Cardiff Loach will be joined by two impressive octogenarians, 82-year-old Ray Davies, former miner and steel worker and lifelong political activist, and, the pioneering Valleys GP Dr Julian Tudor-Hart, who both appear in the film.

“The achievements of the ‘45 Labour government have largely been written out of our history. From near economic collapse we took leading industries into public ownership and established the Welfare State. Generosity, mutual support and co-operation were the watchwords of the age. It is time to remember the determination of those who were intent on building a better world.”
